CCRT CULTURAL CLUB IN SCHOOLS

Role of Culture in Society

Culture is the key to the creative potential of community or society. Arts are the most important facets of culture. Art transmits ideas and beliefs across generations reminding people what their ancestors thought and what they upheld as beautiful and precious. The promotion, preservation and dissemination of information on India’s cultural heritage has been the prime concern of Department of Culture, Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Government of India.

About Centre for Cultural Resources and Training

The Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) was set up in May 1979 by the then Ministry of Education to implement a Scheme of Propagation of Culture amongst students. Today, it has become one of the premier cultural institutions in the country and perhaps one of its kind in the world working in the field of linking education with culture and providing methodologies by which Culture can be used as a base for making education more meaningful for the children of the country.
The training programmes which are conducted by the CCRT throughout the country for teachers and teacher educators stress on the role of culture in all the developmental activities which include Education, Science and Technology, Housing, Medicines, Agriculture, etc. The CCRT also organises various educational activities for school children and children belonging to governmental and nongovernmental organizations. Under its Community and Extension Feedback Programme the Centre organises special tours to monuments, museums, art galleries, craft centres, zoological parks and gardens, camps on conservation of natural and cultural heritage, camps on learning crafts using low cost locally available resources, lectures and demonstrations by artists and experts in various art forms and craft persons in schools. These educational activities emphasize the need for the intellectual and aesthetic development of the children.
