Centre for North Eastern Culture, New Delhi – An Introduction

The Centre for North Eastern Culture, Delhi (CNEC) was inaugurated in 2012.

The Centre for North Eastern Culture was set up in line with the direction given by the former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh after interacting with a group of Youth from the North Eastern Region in December 2009, to promote dissemination of the rich and diverse cultural heritage and tradition as well as modern expression of creativity of the North Eastern States.

This Centre is as a result of collaborative efforts of Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), an autonomous body under Ministry of Culture & North Eastern Council (NEC), the Regional Planning body of the North Eastern Region.

The CNEC has the following objectives:

  • To facilitate the expansion of awareness about the rich and diverse cultural heritage and tradition as well as modern expression of creativity of the North Eastern states
  • To provide content relating to dissemination of culture of the North Eastern states for training of teachers in CCRT and other similar national bodies.
  • To provide a platform for youth from the North Eastern states and other states of India to interact and share creative ideas and other cultural activities related to North Eastern region, its Art and Culture.

The CNEC made digital presentations to teachers who attended the various training programmes at CCRT. The teachers were also brought to the centre where a small display of information, arts and crafts of North East India is displayed. The teachers were also exposed to the vibrant culture of North East India through various performances like Bihu Dance of Assam, Tedim Chin dance (folk dance of Manipur), Lai Haraoba (folk dance of Manipur) etc.
